Shirley Ann Lavinder Carnifax, 81 of Oak Hill, West Virginia left this life to be with her Savior and Lord on August 8, 2019. Shirley was born on January 12, 1938 in Fayetteville, West Virginia to Dennie B. and Stella (Toler) Lavinder. She was the loving wife of H. Dale Carnifax and devoted mother of Steven (Tanja) Davis of Huntington, West Virginia and Mitzi (John) Hanks of Jamestown, Ohio. She was grandmother to Alyssa Davis of Brunswick, Georgia, Ian and Kayleigh Hanks of Jamestown, Ohio, Matthew (Ashley) Davis of Pineville, West Virginia, Amanda Davis of Charlestown, West Virginia and Larissa Davis of Anderson, South Carolina. She was great-grandmother to Eli Stanley of Newnan Georgia. She was a sister to John Lavinder of Fort Ogden, Florida. Shirley was aunt to many nieces and nephews and great-aunt to many great nieces and nephews. Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents, three siblings and two premature grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Bryan High School in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Shirley was blessed with loving parents and a legacy of what it means to live a life dedicated to God and family. She was a member of Mountain View Church of God where she attended faithfully for more than 34 years. Her favorite Scripture was Isaiah 40:31.
The family would like to extended their thanks and gratitude to those who supported Shirley in her battle against Pulmonary Fibrosis and would like to recognize the following: The Research and Care Team at Inova Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia who played a part in accepting her into the clinical trial which gave her family more time with her; the emergency room staff, Dr. Clinton Curtis and respiratory team at Plateau Medical Center who attended to her, immediately meeting her extensive needs with great care; Dr. Scott Keffer, the respiratory team, nurses and CNAs who took extraordinary care of her during her stay at Plateau Medial Center; Pastor Rudell Bloomfield and the members of Mountain View Church of God for their prayers and support of Shirley and her family and the many neighbors and friends who have been so wonderful in their love and care they have extended to her loved ones. Visitation with the family will be held at Mountain View Church of God, Hilltop West Virginia on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 10:30 – 12:00 with a memorial service immediately following.
